While I was putting the story about their GS550 cafe racer together I happened across another great looking bike in their stable. It was built using an icon of 1970’s racing, a Suzuki made famous by Wes Cooley when he won the AMA Superbike Championship over two consecutive years, a 1979 GS1000.

The Suzuki GS550 ‘Race Cream’ is the latest build by Matteucci Garage whose Moto Guzzi ‘Black Boot’ stirred up quite a response a couple of months ago. The ‘Race Cream’ demonstrates the same high level of finish and unique design details we saw on the ‘Black Boot’ and considering these are the only 2 bikes Matteucci has built to date, there are sure to be more great builds from. I guess something about the attainability of the customs we create speaks to new riders. They aren’t out of reach for anyone who wants a great looking bike. Industrial designer Charlie Trelogan even used it for his seminal piece on cafe racer styling. Eastern Spirit are now back with a new build, a GS550 inspired by a similar Suzuki that was a huge hit on EXIF a year ago. “We put the blue GS on display in Warsaw and our client Zbyszek saw it,” says Sylwester.
